The 30-Day Notice: When Corporate Feedback Becomes an Ultimatum

So this is what happened.

Yesterday, my manager called me into the meeting room. Said my performance isn’t up to expectations. Said he doubts I’ve ever created a component before. Said the client has complaints and he’s reporting it to the parent company. Then he said “okay, that’s it” and just left. Mid-conversation. Door. Gone.

Today was just the waiting. After I explained the legacy code complexity to the parent company, they said they’d get back to me in 5 minutes. I sat there for over an hour. My brain wrote a hundred versions of me getting fired while I just stared at the screen.

Then at 19:19 the email finally landed. Datamatics HR. Official. 30 days to improve or 9 October is my last working day. CC’d to five people, so my name now sits in five inboxes being discussed by people I can’t reply to.

And the weird part is — I don’t feel anything right now. Not sad. Not angry. Not even scared. Just flat. Like someone reached into my chest and turned the volume off.

If I had to name it, it feels like two things at the same time: a slap in the face, and a redirection. Like the universe hit me and pointed down a different road and said not that one. this one. walk. The funny part is, I still don’t know which one it actually is yet. I just have to start walking.

I’m exhausted. Tired of this year in a way that sleep doesn’t fix.

I don’t know what’s gonna happen next. Maybe I survive the 30 days. Maybe October 9 is my last day. Maybe both happen and neither kills me.

Tonight I’m going to a movie. Song in my ears. This diary open on my phone.

Whatever comes next —

stay tuned.
